Blending Past, Present, and Future
Right Angle Studio’s latest project, “The Rasidence”, located in Singapore, stands as a testament to their evolving design narrative. This duplex apartment, following the successful “Residence L”, encapsulates a seamless blend of the past, present, and future. The design effortlessly merges historical elements with contemporary aesthetics and forward-thinking concepts, creating a living space that is both timeless and innovative.
Inside the apartment, every detail has been meticulously planned to foster a harmonious spatial experience. The minimalistic and unobtrusive zones are tailored for gatherings and conversations, reflecting a balance between functionality and elegance. The dining area, with its bespoke display shelf seamlessly integrated into the walls, exemplifies this thoughtful approach, offering a cohesive and inviting ambiance.
Innovative Spatial Design and Functionality
One of the standout features of The Rasidence is its open kitchen layout, which includes a bar counter that pays homage to its origins. This space is designed not just for cooking, but also for socializing, making it the heart of the home. The living room further enhances this sense of openness and flexibility with sliding ash wood screens. These screens elegantly divide the space while providing glimpses of the tranquil outdoor garden, blurring the lines between indoor and outdoor living.
A unique element in the design is the planted tree on the lower level. This tree is more than just a decorative feature; it symbolizes life’s journey and growth, seamlessly inviting nature into the space. It serves as a constant reminder of the organic connection between the built environment and the natural world.
Architectural Transformations and Lighting Innovations
The staircase in The Rasidence has undergone a complete transformation, now resting atop two wooden foundation platforms. This reconfiguration not only improves access to the upper level but also adds a sculptural quality to the space. The new orientation of the staircase creates a fluid transition between the floors, enhancing the overall spatial experience.
Lighting plays a crucial role in the design of The Rasidence. On the upper level, an artificial skylight floods the mezzanine with radiant light, transforming its previously dim atmosphere into a bright, inviting space. The focal point of this level is a minimalist wall art sculpted by light into the shape of a parenthesis, adding a contemporary allure and framing the area with elegance.
A Palette of Warmth and Continuity
Preserving the curved volumes from the original structure, the master room’s bed head exudes continuity and elegance. The design maintains a sense of flow and unity throughout the space, emphasizing smooth, uninterrupted lines. Human-made skylights extend their luminous touch into the bathrooms, employing minimalist forms that enhance the serene atmosphere.
The color palette of The Rasidence is dominated by cream and neutral tones, crafting a warm, inviting ambiance that permeates the entire apartment. These tones, combined with the thoughtful integration of light and nature, create a living space that feels both expansive and intimate.
Conclusion: Documenting Design Evolution
The Rasidence transcends mere living space; it documents the evolution of Right Angle Studio’s design narrative. This project reflects the studio’s commitment to creating spaces that are not only functional and beautiful but also deeply connected to their surroundings and the passage of time. By harmoniously blending elements of the past, present, and future, The Rasidence offers a unique architectural curation that speaks to the timeless nature of thoughtful design.
