Circular‘s approach to the NYC Corona 3K Public Preschool is rooted in sustainability, guided by Passive House principles. This design philosophy emphasizes energy efficiency, reduced carbon footprint, and enhanced indoor air quality. By repurposing an existing commercial building, Circular minimized waste and preserved valuable resources, showcasing how adaptive reuse can be both practical and environmentally responsible.
The project features advanced insulation and a continuous air barrier, significantly improving thermal performance. Triple-pane windows and a dedicated outdoor air system ensure high levels of indoor air quality, protecting students and staff from the pollutants and noise of the busy Roosevelt Avenue corridor. The preschool includes seven classrooms, a medical room, staff room, parent’s lounge, playroom, and utility spaces. The quick turnaround of the project demonstrates how adaptive reuse can be a viable solution to meet urgent community needs without compromising on quality or sustainability.
