S House in Urla, Türkiye is a study in transformation

Perched on the sloping site of Kekliktepe, this 550?m² residence started life as a simple, pre-existing shell. Ofisvesaire stepped in to reimagine its structure and reconfigure its spaces, resulting in a home that feels both grounded in its landscape and open to the sky.

Ofisvesaire’s Vision and Approach

Founded in ?zmir in 2013, Ofisvesaire has built its reputation on adaptive reuse and an interdisciplinary design process. For S House, the team embraced the challenge of working within an existing framework, rather than starting from scratch. By revisiting the original structural grid, they could preserve the building’s bones while introducing new architectural layers—like a composite system of reinforced concrete paired with delicate pergola elements—to give the home a refreshed identity.

Reworking Form and Flow

The real magic happened when the architects reorganized the floor plan and massing. A flexible glass-fronted pergola extends the living areas outward, creating a seamless threshold between indoors and out. Inside, semi-transparent sliding doors dissolve rigid boundaries: what begins as a formal living room and dining area can instantly expand into an alfresco lounge overlooking the terrace. This choreography of walls and movable facades invites occupants to tailor the home’s footprint to their mood or occasion.

Living with Flexibility

Functionally, S House adapts to a spectrum of daily rituals. The entrance hall—lined in warm wood and marble—acts as a calm prelude before opening onto communal zones. Down a gallery punctuated by curated artworks, you’ll find the private wing: a master suite, two guest bedrooms, and a hobby room, each with its own service alcove. Niches and hidden storage further blur the line between décor and utility, ensuring that every nook can shift between social gathering and quiet retreat.

Material Connections and Light

A natural palette of wood, stone, and steel roots the house in its surroundings, while carefully placed skylights and shading screens choreograph patterns of sunlight and shadow. In the master bathroom, for instance, a skylight filters light through wooden fins, casting a subtle dance of stripes across a stone wall. Outside, the pool house, gym, and parking area step lightly on the terrain, linked by pathways that reinforce the dialogue between built form and landscape.
