Old Bantam (Banten Lama) is experiences museum where every spots have evidence of the distinguished historical port and well designed as the famous port city in the Dutch East Indies that was glorius in 16th – 17th century AD. Karangantu Harbor is a part of Old Bantam which spead up to 1,500 meters whether the 30 meters wide and 7 meters depth.
Eventhought Sunda Kelapa Harbour is famous as the port city in Indonesia, Karangantu Harbor was older than Sunda Kelapa. At that time, Karangantu has become the largest trading harbor in Dutch East Indies. Provided that people to trade while the Chinese, Arabic, Gujarati, Persian, Turkey, Burma, France, Britain and the Netherlands took the spices then they sold in the Middle East and Europe through the Karangantu Harbor. In the year of 1614, there were a number of ships from China anchored that lead several things from theirs where 18 years ago for the first time Netherlanders under the leadership of the Dutch Trade Fleet Cornelis de Houtman landed in Karangantu Harbor, Banten in the 1596. Unfortunately, the Sunda Kelapa port development followed by the destruction of Bantam controlled by the Dutch colonial government. Finally, Karangantu Harbor no longer as a center of trade that automatically affected stagnant economic activity of Sultanate of Banten.
Nowadays, Karangantu Harbour no longer as major harbour in Banten because the condition was miserable. The sea are polluted as well as the river had high sedimentation. The mangroves are eroded and almost extricated so sea water interrupt into the land made the channel more shallow in spite of sedimentation. There are many of perforated fishermen boats that contrive them even though they should sail away to look for fish but the fact they cannot do in a such of condition. They lack of information about climate change made unfriendly weather so that make them worse off. In fact, the infrastructure is damaged that impacted ineffective transportations. Lack of clean water supplies. The settlements turn into slums area in line with the markets also just neglected. The fossil energy sources are increasingly scarce and expensive and trigger them to adapt with the conditions. So, to conclude, it is resulted in decreased levels of welfare Karangantu environment and surrounded. Having said that, degraded environment is very crucial.
