Margarido House by Mike McDonald

Completed in 2009, the Margarido House is the first new home in the country to be both LEED-H certified and GreenPoint rated. Green features of the project include: planted rood garden and deck, on site rain and ground water reclamation tanks, in floor hydronic heating, permeable paving, solar electric power, solar thermal (hot water), locally sourced thermally broken doors and windows, concrete with minimum of 25% fly ash, recycled concrete and recycled glass counters, poured concrete flooring and walls to create a thermal mass for heating and cooling, maximum use locally sourced and sustainable building products, engineered and sustainable framing materials such as recycled steel, OSB, LVL and Timerstand wood products, interiors air quality management system, smart house automation features to minimize energy use and maximize convenience, low energy LED lighting, the latest in contemporary green appliances, tile, fixtures, cabinetry and finishes, low water/drought tolerant landscaping and plants, zero VOC paints.
