Kasian’s South Bow Office Earns Dual Honours

The South Bow Headquarters in Calgary, designed by Kasian Architecture, Interior Design and Planning, has captured two of Canada’s most prestigious design accolades: Shaw Contract Design Awards ‘Best of Region: Canada’ and CREW Calgary Awards ‘Project of the Year’. This recognition marks a defining moment for South Bow’s new workplace and for Kasian’s human-centred design approach that fuses innovation with hospitality warmth.

Defining a New Corporate Identity Through Design

Emerging as an independent critical energy infrastructure company, South Bow sought a headquarters that would symbolize its transition and values. With no prior brand culture to draw from, Kasian created a workplace that became the foundation of South Bow’s identity—an environment that nurtures collaboration and belonging. The project spans four floors of Calgary’s Manulife Tower and was delivered on an accelerated eight-month schedule, made possible through tight coordination among Kasian, South Bow’s internal team, and construction partner Govan Brown.

Warm Minimalism and Human-Centred Spatial Planning

The resulting interior blends mid-century modern sensibility with hospitality-inspired comfort. Curved glass partitions, natural wood tones, and dual-tone concrete floors reflect the tower’s geometry while softening its edges. Workspaces are arranged into neighborhood clusters tailored to diverse work styles, anchored by a vibrant communal hub—the social heart of the office. Dedicated wellness and prayer rooms reinforce Kasian’s commitment to inclusivity and employee wellbeing, while daylight and transparency define the overall atmosphere.

Client Collaboration as the Core of Success

From early visioning sessions to final handover, the project thrived on mutual trust. “Collaborating with Kasian was a journey of excitement, creativity, and innovation,” said Julie Popescu of South Bow. President & CEO Bevin Wirzba praised the result as “a stunning combination of functionality and elegance.” This ongoing feedback loop between designer and client ensured that every design decision reflected real operational needs, transforming the headquarters into a genuine expression of South Bow’s emerging culture.

Together, these awards affirm Kasian’s leadership in sustainable and human-focused design, setting a benchmark for corporate interiors that prioritize people, wellbeing, and authenticity.

With its balance of sophistication, practicality, and emotional resonance, South Bow’s new headquarters stands as a testament to what thoughtful collaboration between client and architect can achieve. For Kasian Architecture, Interior Design and Planning, it is another milestone in their four-decade mission to craft environments that improve life and strengthen connection between people and place.
