Matthew POTTER presents the award-winning glass project “Gardens by the Bay”
2014, February 4, INGLASS Warsaw International Architecture Conference
Matthew Potter joined Wilkinson Eyre Architects in 2004, was made an Associate in 2008 and Associate Director in 2012. He has been involved in a number of award winning projects across the commercial, cultural and education sectors. He has recently finished his work as Project Architect for Singapore’s Gardens by the Bay Conservatory Complex – two sustainably cooled glasshouses with a combined footprint of more than 2ha. Matthew has worked on this scheme throughout its development from the competition winning scheme submitted in 2006 to its completion; the project opened to the public at the end of June 2012, and was recently awarded the World Building of the Year at the World Architecture Festival. He worked in Singapore for 18 months, liaising with the client, local consultants and contractor and overseeing the delivery of the façade and interior displays.

Prior to his work in Singapore, he was part of the team responsible for the award-winning Guangzhou International Finance Centre, where his role involved the resolution of the complex geometries related to the structural diagrid and cladding.

He has worked on a number of the office’s university schemes: as part of the bid team for the Hauser Forum on the University of Cambridge’s West Cambridge Campus and as Project Architect for the Phase B of Anglia Ruskin University’s Rivermead Campus, the major component of which is new Faculty Building and Health School. This project, and his previous work on the Phase A Student Centre and Sports Hall, form part of a new campus masterplanned by Wilkinson Eyre. Matthew has also worked on a number of commercial projects, including a scheme for the London Borough of Hammersmith & Fulham which involved the rationalisation of council accommodation, mixed-use development and an improved public realm in Hammersmith town centre, and a major commercial project at Regents Place.
