The French Window Honoured with New York Award

Press Release:
The French Window Selected by Hospitality Design Magazine for Prestigious Award
Hong Kong, May 25, 2010 – Design mastermind, AB Concept, has been honoured with an illustrious Hospitality Design Award for its most recently completed and striking project, The French Window. The company will be presented with one of the design community’s most prestigious accolades in the Restaurant Fine Dining category at the awards run by leading publication Hospitality Design next month in New York.

AB Concept’s exceptional design of the high-end restaurant, located in Hong Kong’s Central district, is sophisticated yet welcoming and results in an elegant venue that speaks to the romance of French culture. Echoing the distinct style of French design, the restaurant was selected ahead of hundreds of competitor submissions and is the latest recognition of the company’s exceptional and unique approach to design.

Founder and Director of AB Concept, Ed Ng said: “It’s a great privilege to have won this award in acknowledgement of our distinctive style and ability to set the tone though emotive, stimulating design. This achievement further demonstrates our consistently high standards and diversity in creating uncompromisingly, stylish interiors.”

Influenced by historic elements of traditional chateau design, AB Concept’s vision for the restaurant achieves an inviting setting that pays tribute to the customs of the French dining culture. This is gracefully accomplished by the low-lit entranceway, permeated by dramatic wood louvers, modern lanterns and lush vertical garden panels as one passes the wine cellar.

Once inside, the restaurant is immediately distinguished by the meeting of hand beaten wrought-iron with textured glass in a series of screens inspired by Parisian antiques and resembling French windows. The floor-to-ceiling style windows open up the restaurant to perfectly complement the breath-taking view onto the city’s famous Victoria Harbour.

“We wanted to achieve a balance in the design between nostalgia and modernity, creating an ambience that was unique and up-scale, and yet distinctly residential and warm, characterised by defining aspects of French culture,” added Ng.

The residential feel to the project is achieved through a combination of ornate taupe carpeting, casual modern furniture and low lighting, created by decorative wrought-iron floor and suspended lamps with creative French detailing. To create a sense of tranquility, AB Concept applied a sultry olive palette throughout the restaurant and added subtle decorative touches to give the restaurant a unique and modern twist.

The 2010 Hospitality Design Award adds to a distinguished list of awards including last year’s Hospitality Design Award for the interior design of Hotel Jen in Hong Kong, as well as wins in the Gold Key and IDC Hospitality Awards. AB Concept will receive the award at the presentation and reception on June 9 at the Hudson Theatre, in New York’s Millennium Broadway Hotel.
