Cradle for Multiple Cultures and Social Cohesion in Hong Kong, China / by Nomad Office Architects

Heritage Revitalization in Hong Kong
Heritage is a socio-cultural resource, which the Hong Kong citizen is drawing on to help define an identity, both connected to and distinct from mainland China. Heritage revitalization is primarily software driven and its operating model should reflect the social needs and benefit at time rather than only upkeep architecture which frozen in time.

Social Inclusion of Ethnic Minority
If we are to achieve a richer culture, rich in contrasting values, we must recognize the whole range of human potentials, and weave a less arbitrary social fabric, one in which each diverse human gift will find a fitting place. In that regard, the operating model and the program should channel the positive energy and individual gift to form a symbiotic relationship and bring positive changes toward ethnic minority and local community.

Local Identity of Hong Kong People
The recent outrages against Chinese from the mainland reflect the increase of social tensions and identity issues since handover. The incidents also become a reflective glass of how we should see EM issues in our local context.

If we are to embrace a harmonious society that appreciates cultural differences, we must at first discover and respect the values of our own culture and identity.

In this project, a sustainable operating model should be well thought out to share vision with our community and generate positive social impact. Architectural quality can take place hereafter to complement the heritage site and the monument.
