The Burnham Pavilions by Zaha Hadid Architects and UN Studio received the 2010 Best Small Project Award by the Structural Engineers Association of Illinois (SEAOI). With a prestigious history of innovative engineering for some of the world’s most renowned architecture, the Structural Engineers Association of Illinois stated the anything-but-conventional internal structures of the pavilions proved robust, putting engineering in the service of adventurous, eye-popping architecture and ambitious urban planning. Both structures, although different in form, seem to float and make the pavilions look effortless. The aluminium and steel structures creatively handled the architects’ visions.
