Walking through the historic carved wooden gate, visitors immediately encounter remnants of the original residential charm—courtyard spaces, weathered walls, and a rustic wooden door evoke a sense of nostalgia. Yet, these elements are intentionally juxtaposed with modern interventions. By combining two identical old buildings into one expansive 300 m² space, the project not only preserves the local architectural narrative but also redefines it. This seamless interplay between old and new forms the core of the design philosophy, inviting occupants to experience a curated narrative of Shanghai’s layered history.

At the helm of the project is Chief Designer Zhang Yaotian, whose creative vision permeates every detail of the space. Leading a diverse design team under the 485 MetaGalaxy label, Zhang Yaotian orchestrates an environment that encourages spontaneous conversations and creative exchanges. His approach is marked by a respect for the original structural elements while pushing the boundaries of contemporary design.
