City of Westminster College by schmidt hammer lassen architects has received a prestigious RIBA Award in London. With this award, The Royal Institute of British Architects (RIBA) acknowledges that City of Westminster College is of high architectural standard and contributes considerably to its surroundings.
Today, Thursday May 19th 2011, this year’s winners were announced at a ceremony in London.
”schmidt hammer lassen architects’ new flagship campus for City of Westminster College is designed to embrace interaction and diversity and allow students to learn from each other, both formally and informally,” explains Partner Kim Holst Jensen.

Because not only is the RIBA Award considered the world’s most thoroughly assessed architectural award; the award also demonstrates that the Scandinavian approach to architecture is valued in the rest of the world.”
City of Westminster College, won in a competition in 2006 and opened to students in January 2011, is the first completed building by schmidt hammer lassen architects in the UK, soon to be followed by The Learning Zone – Library and Learning Centre in Sheffield and the University of Aberdeen New Library in Scotland. Both will be completed in 2011.
