One of the largest churches in the world, SaRang Community Church of Seoul, tapped The Beck Group of Dallas to design its massive new Global Ministry Center. SaRang Church chose Beck in an international design competition to create a new campus for the congregation which has over 40,000 persons in weekly attendance. Beck’s design provides 66,500 m2 (over 687,000 SF) of new space for the church on a prominent site in Seoul.
Because of the building site’s limited size (1.7 acres) and highly restrictive zoning, Beck’s innovative design solution placed over 60 percent of the new facility underground including a 6,500 seat sanctuary. Above ground, two curvilinear glass towers connected by a skybridge provide educational, community and administrative spaces, and a 600-seat chapel. The towers wrap a large fountain-laced plaza inscribed with a world map symbolizing the church’s vision of world-wide Christian work embraced by God and supported by the church.
Construction began on the project began in early 2011.
