The project calls for the renovation of a small courtyard house in Guan Shu Yuan Hutong, Beijing, which is located between the famed Yonghe Tibetan Temple and the historical Imperial Academy. The client is an art collector from Shanghai, whose wish is to reinvent this “pocket-house” into a gallery with a “Shanghai ambiance” for his ceramic art works.

I have bookmarked this project since mid 2009 and now I have a chance to post it here – the Chaoyangmen SOHO by Zaha Hadid. I can’t see the detail of the project, but as always I just like the shape of buildings designed by her. Mentioned as Zaha’s first architectural works in Beijing, the uniqueness of the project is paralelled with the Beijing bird´s nest stadium, at least that what it’s said by an Pan Shiyi, a real estate mogul chairman of SOHO China.

China Life Insurance R&D Center in Beijing by Henn Architekten

The design of China Life Insurance R&D Center was proposed by Henn Architekten for a competition. Located in Beijing, the project adopting the Chinese traditional buildings and translates them into modern design. Consists of of a main building, a research and laboratory building and a training center with a connected boarding house, the complex ringed with areas of open water.

Coming in 2009: CCTV Tower Beijing

Actually the structure of CCTV Tower was completed in time of the 2008 Olympics, but it will be functional by the end of 2009. Designed by Rem Koolhaas and Ole Scheeren, with Cecil Balmond as design engineer, this spectacular building will become the headquarters of China’s state television company.

The you know who stadium now has its bamboo version. Made by a group of villagers in Hangshou City, the replicas constructed with 1000 pieces of bamboo and completed in two weeks. Now I’m sure that Chinese are replicators of all the things not just electronic devices.

Beijing Olympic 2008 Goes Beyond Architecture

Along with new mega buildings include Bird’s Nest stadium, Aquatic Center, and the 3 million Beijing’s futuristic new airport terminal designed by British architect Norman Foster, the government of China is also trying to create a new, improved population for the Olympic events.

With a price tag of $43 billion, the Summer Games that will open Aug. 8 in Beijing are the most expensive in Olympic history. The transformation, however, goes far beyond the eye-popping architecture. The Chinese government also has been trying to create a new, improved population to go along with its spiffed-up capital city.
