
A vernacular dry stone house in the Pyrenees and the aim to transform it into a comfortable and utilitarian second residence are at the origin of this project. Fathers and sons want separated homes but shared experiences.

In collaboration with Article 25 and Buro Happold, Foster + Partners started a project to establish a design prototype to create a series of school buildings for Sierra Leone. The prototype has modular system and very flexible, It has larger classrooms, effective ventilation and natural light. The system embraces floor, walls and roof on a flexible plan and can be easily assembled and reconfigured to meet the different demands of communities in Sierra Leone.

I just realized that water is not a Netherlands’ specific problem, but we can find such problem and its solution in Ontario, Canada. MOS designed this floating house with vernacular approach and specific to its site condition especially the water level which too vary drastically from time to time. As you can see on the image, the house floats atop a structure of steel pontoons, allowing it to fluctuate along with the lake.

Mentioned as a good example of sustainable architecture, the Tulous Chinese architecture are constructed with rocks, bamboo, reeds, and wood. All material are local-made and natural.
Tulou are traditional communal residences in the Fujian province of Southern China, often of a circular configuration surrounding a central shrine. Some of these vernacular structures were constructed of cut granite or had substantial walls of fired brick. The end result is a well lit, well-ventilated, windproof, earthquake resistant building that is warm in winter and cool in summer.

Located in Chile, the Hotel Tierra Atacama was designed by Architects Rodrigo Searle y Matías González. The hotel was built using stone, mud brick (adobe) and rammed earth.
