House like a Museum by Edward Suzuki

Description of House like a Museum by Edward Suzuki:
Located in only about a five-minute walking distance from the railroad station, this house sits in a commercial/residential zone. As such, the neighboring houses and shops encroach upon the site rather closely, so much so that from the start the idea to “look out” from the property was abandoned to instead “look inward” was adopted. Since the client-owner had a vast amount of art collection and wished to display such art in the new house, the theme “House like a Museum” became the design generator.

House at Shimogamo Yakocho by Edward Suzuki

Desciption of House at Shimogamo Yakocho by Edward Suzuki:
“To be able to see green from every room” — such was all that the client requested.
In order to meet this demand as well as to enable the residents to feel a sense of spaciousness in the rather small 360 square meter corner lot tightly flanked on two sides by neighboring houses, the long applied concept of “Interface” was again used here.

Matsuki Residence by HEAD Architecture and Design

Description of Matsuki Residence by HEAD Architecture and Design:
On a tight budget and with limited time, two unexceptional apartments have been combined to form what is essentially a single, dramatically conceived space. This is a new home for a new family, in which the rituals of family life – bathing, playing, eating, sleeping – can be thoroughly re-evaluated, with an open-plan sequence of simple flexible spaces facilitating the informal flow and changing requirements of an expanding family. Like a blank canvas the spaces are currently rather bare but, as the family grows and memories are created, the walls will quickly fill up.

Project description of Cliff House by Altius Architecture:
Set on a rock formation overlooking a spectacular lake, the Cliff House seeks to enhance the extraordinary surroundings through the thoughtful integration of building elements with the natural assets of the site and terrain. The program called for intimate spaces carefully tuned to the unique views, light, and breezes of the site. Self-sufficiency was a key client mandate and the project is completely off-grid.
