The striking twin tower shapes the skyline of Frankfurt’s Ostend
The design of the Viennese architectural studio Coop Himmelb(l)au for the new premises of the European Central Bank in Frankfurt combines the horizontal structure of the landmarked Grossmarkthalle with a twisted double tower, which rises to 185 meters. United by an entrance building, these two elements form an ensemble of special architectural significance. Featuring bridges, pathways and platforms, the glass atrium between the two highrises creates a vertical city. The semi-public and communicative functions are located in the former Grossmarkthalle. The exceptional atrium and visible steel support structure show that the ECB building belongs to an entirely new typology of skyscrapers.
The hyperboloid cut
From the beginning it was an explicit request of the ECB to create a unique, iconic building as a symbol for the European Union. A distinctive and unique building can only be achieved by a completely different kind of Geometry.
The design concept of the ECB is to vertically divide a monolithic block through a hyperboloid cut, wedge it apart, twist it and fill the newly created intermediary space with a glass atrium. The result is a very complex geometry and a multifaceted building offering a completely different appearance from each angle: massive and powerful from the South-East, slender and dynamic from the West.
Bekaert nv is the market leader in steel wire transformation and coatings. The new administrative building is built on a site in Zwevegem, near the Bekaert Technology Center (BTC) site. The architects have opted in favour of a campus model for the building, thus prioritizing the synergy between the new project and the BTC. The building’s implantation, the design of the surrounding area as well as the architectural approach are all conceived in function of this synergy.
The building is situated across the street pattern, partly positioned in parallel to the buffer pond corresponding with the rhythm of the buildings in the Esser industrial zone, partly connected to the ETC buildings. The result is a playful element in the design.
The project for the new corporate offices of Siemens in Polanco was done by Serrano Monjaraz arquitectos. One of the main objectives of the project was to obtain the LEED Gold certification and for this reason all the elements considered for the development of the project were selected with the adequate characteristics to achieve this goal.

The Confederation of Employers of Albacete (FEDA) is a nonprofit organization representing and supporting the business network in the Region. Due to the evolution of its activities and growth of services, the organization raised the idea of bringing together in a sole building all the instalations that were scattered throughout the city of Albacete. This idea was the seed of this project.
From the beggining it became apparent that this initiative would be a milestone for Albacete, because FEDA has a high level of representation in the city, and because it offers many services to its companies. Besides, the new building aspires to endow new life to a new neighborhood which is being built between a hard industrial and services center, Campollano estate, and the city center.
The new Danks & Bourke strata commercial building is a refurbishment of a 1960’s concrete furniture warehouse. It is located in the former industrial area of Danks Street, which has lately become a trendy hub for the designer commercial set. The triple-frontage building contains 4,000sqm of office space over two levels, a supermarket and specialty retail stores on the ground floor.
Less than half a year to go until the opening of the Court of Justice, Hasselt

Update from the construction-site: Spring 2013 marks the opening of “Court of Justice” in Hasselt, designed by teams of architects at J. MAYER H. Architects, a2o-architecten and Lensºass architecten. Having finished all façade works in 2011, the interior is now under construction and due to be completed in early 2013. A look at the site gives an impressive picture of the final dimension and appearance of the high-rise complex.
Inauguration of the IBC Innovation Factory

The IBC Innovation Factory by schmidt hammer lassen architects is designed to support new ways of learning. The 12,800 square metres educational building has gone through a total refurbishment and will be officially inaugurated by His Royal Highness the Prince Consort of Denmark on 6th December 2012.
The IBC Innovation Factory is the result of a refurbishment project of the paint manufacturer GORI’s factory from 1978, which set new standards for factories at the time. In the spirit of the original factory, schmidt hammer lassen architects, in collaboration with International Business College (IBC) Kolding, has created the settings for a ground-breaking and creative learning environment, aiming to become the world’s best. The ambition is to be a training camp for future innovators.

The headquarter of the International SETEC, located in Vitrolles in the south of France, formerly EPAREB (Etablissement Public d’Aménagement des Rives de l’Etang de Berre) was built in several phases. Firstly, in the 70s, Jean Prouvé implemented “Petroff system” developing a three-dimensional structural steel sheet and plexiglass panels on the front. This device would allow to cover a large area without increasing the bearing points, which in turn was covered by aluminium stiffeners attached to the work front.
