First Velodrome in Luxembourg / by Metaform and Mecanoo

Metaform and Mecanoo, Luxembourg and Netherlands based architecture offices, have won a competition to design a new Velodrome and a Sports Complex in Mondorf-les-Bains, Luxembourg.

The Velodrome, Multi-Sports and Swimming Pool Complex project is inspired by its surroundings, a subtly undulating topography. The main challenge was to integrate all three functions under one roof while paying respect to the context and at the same time to create the architectural landmark for the city of Mondorf-les-Bains.

Huabang International Centre in Guangzhou, China / by 10 DESIGN

10 DESIGN has created a new iconic destination for Huabang Holdings right in the heart of the Pazhou district, an important new CBD which will be developed to lead the City of Guangzhou into an international innovation and technology centre. This exciting new district will become a new home to many internationally renowned e-commerce giants like Tencent, Alibaba and Xiaomi

10 DESIGN is Design Architect for this landmark building, ‘Huabang International Centre’. It is a twin tower development linked by a public sky deck, rising 130m in height above Pazhou. One of the towers will be trade-marked as Huabang Headquarters whilst the other tower will accommodate a five star hotel and serviced apartment, totaling approximately 90,000 sqm GFA. The development is scheduled to welcome its office tenants and hotel guests by 2020.

Luminous, curvilinear facades, ribbons of generous balconies separated by wood panels… At the foot of the Montagne de l’Aigle, Architect Jean-Baptiste Pietri’s studio has created a new programme of 145 apartments, a stone’s throw from the coves of the Massif des Calanques that gave the project its name: La Crique.

Ivanhoe Grammar Senior Years & Science Centre, Australia / by McBride Charles Ryan

The brief for this new school building included a variety of general learning areas, provision for the senior year teachers and a science centre. The circular shaped plan had an appropriate civic quality based on the school’s original masterplan. However, rather repeating the circular pattern inside, the designers chose to use geometry and colour to define the central courtyards, light wells and learning spaces. The sharp angles and vivid colours of the interior form a dramatic contrast with the round form and muted tones of the drum-like outer structure.
