After decades of government-backed de-centralization urban life is again being promoted in Tokyo, and residential mid-rise and high-rise towers have as a consequence begun to populate the city in large numbers. Collectively the additions form a new normal urban typology that embraces height but unexpectedly denies the surrounding urban landscape in favor of an interior life. Not surprisingly a side effect of this approach is the lack of livable outdoor space in the city centre.

Competition Title: New York Hotel Tower & Sky Garden Skyscraper Competition

AIM: The aim of this competition is to create an investigation into the design and construction ideas of high-rise or very tall architecture and the dynamic communities within and around them with attention to aesthetics, technology, material, flexibility, adaptability and sustainability at its core.

PROJECT: This international ideas competition challenges participants to design a NEW Hotel Tower and Sky Garden Skyscraper in New York, USA. The design should create a new iconic skyscraper in the city of skyscrapers that is New York.

ELIGIBILITY:
– Architects
– Graduate Architects
– Architecture Students
– Team (Architects, Graduate Architect, Architecture Students)
– Inter-Disciplinary Teams (engineers, designers in-conjunction with an architect).

REGISTRATION FEE:
Every entrant shall be required to pay an entry fee as follows:
– Special Registration: $80 US from 1st August 12:00 (GMT) to 19th August 2012 11:59 (GMT)

The renovation of this residence was a very interesting challenge. The original construction has two levels placed in a lot with an angle that demanded the best of Kababie Architects talent, to solve the spaces properly according to the functions. The inhabitants of the house required a separate space to be used as an office and for this reason the entrance was segmented in 3 parts so each area of the residence has a separate entrance.
