Iconic Pedestrian Bridge in Amsterdam / by ZALEWSKI ARCHITECTURE GROUP

That cannot be a bridge.

The open international idea competition for pedestrian bridge in the heart of Amsterdam prompted us to ask ourselves a question – how to combine in one building several elements that would result in designing a unique and outstanding bridge.

The name of the competition – Iconic Bridge made us seek ideas with a strong formal expression and unconventional functional and technical solutions. Organizers also defined number of functional requirements that had to be met – among others, the bridge had to ensure freedom of vessels movement on the river and make it possible to arrange café bar and bicycle repair area on the bridge.

Patio House in Toronto / by Reza Aliabadi

Patio House, located in the Nortown area in Toronto, Ontario, is a minimalist two-storey wood structure house, which carefully responds to three major questions: the needs of the residents, the situation of the site, and the environmental concerns. Being located in a corner lot, the building maintains a presentable façade for the residential street while controlling sun exposure from the west. This strategy has been achieved by inserting a dynamic series of linear windows in the white brick façade and extracting a box from the monolithic geometry to create the patio.

AN ORGANIC, BIOCLIMATIC HOUSE IN BRITTANY / by PATRICE BIDEAU

This house on the shores of the Golfe du Morbihan, not far from AURAY, was built using organic architectural principals with a concentration of green energy components for maximum efficiency without resorting to technical sophistication. Completed at the beginning of this year, the house is situated in a region benefitting from oceanic climate conditions. The project was born of the owners’ desire to build a new house on their property in BADEN, incorporating a landscaped garden and a natural, chemical free swimming pool. These were created before construction began on the house in collaboration with a designer and a landscape gardener. The garden was designed to provide protection from Westerly winds with a vegetable garden to the East. A distinctive ambiance emerged from this new, natural environment surrounding the construction site.
