From Hamiltons: The 1.5 acre site in central Hammersmith has lain empty for many years, an eyesore in the busy town centre. The redevelopment proposal is for an office led, mixed-use scheme with restaurants and a cinema with a new landscaped public realm area. The building will be a landmark in the town, and its use of curved surfaces both on plan and in elevation soften the impact on its immediate neighbours. This approach which uses curved forms presents a less aggressive form in the streetscape.

The building is multi facetted. At street level, the perception is a dynamic, active street frontage, while longer views perceive a smooth, coherent form as stepped terraces and roof top paraphernalia are contained within a louvered screen serving to unify the overall concept as well as providing solar shading to the southern elevation. The use of glass and metal demonstrates a confidence in the building form and reinforces the modernity inherent in the design concept.

The brief includes achievement of BREEAM ‘Excellent’.
